The Nolan family has a consistent willingness to lead the way in search of better ideas. Our modus operandi is not to take excessive risks, not to deviate wildly, and not to depart from our established principals and commitments.
Since the late 60's, we have patiently searched for a value added beef program that creates clear and objective consumer advantages. We have also been looking for a Maternal Cross that increases end-product quality. Finally, we have found the solution to both searches at once - and the answers are not radical changes from our long-term goals or systems!

We were the largest Fullblood breeder in the world from 1982 until 2001, choosing to reduce down for this program expansion. The we started a farm in South Africa , and introducing new genetics to the world.
The same philosophy today is in place for our Fullblood operation as it was in 1969 - high performing Maternal cattle for a money making Cowherd. Our Fullblood Fleckvieh cattle stop the escalation of birth weight and mature size... without sacrificing type or performance.

The World's Maternal Breed; muscle, milk, performance & carcass traits. We have bred Fullblood Simmentals for 35 years; and Bar 5 blood flows all over the world. We have produced over 6,000 head of Fullblood Simmentals, we have won Premier Breeder & Exhibitor in 4 decades and cater to an International customer list. No other Simmental operation can boast these figures.
Our customers have set records in production, shows and sales; a fact we are proud of !!! Our passion, our reason for being is Fullblood Simmentals. Our objective is to breed the best we can find. We were the biggest Fullblood Breeder in the world from 1970 to 1978, and then again 1982 to 2001 !! We continue to the leader; no other operation leads the push to better, easier calving, lower maintenance Simmental than Bar 5 !!!
We will add some SR & SB to the mix as we go in order for our customers to get a shot of percentage Simmental in their programs.

Ron Nolan , was a pioneer in the Polled Fullblood industry here in North America , taking it on in 1981 with the Purchase of AWL Polar Best 2M semen. Bar 5's first Polled Fullblood bull was sold in 1983 - to Ron Nolan . This guy is the grandsire of Harkaway Enforcer 16Y. Since then, we have been producing Homozygous Polled Bulls and still in 2003 we are building more. We pioneered this category - we will continue on; all with the Maternal performance goal!! We build most of these cattle from 100% Fullblood mammas - using proven super Easy EPD calving bulls with moderate Simmental performance with high maternal values. Not many others can say this - Pure Simmentals back these bulls up. Do not be fooled by imitations - these Bar 5 Simmental Reds (Bar 5 SR) are designed for a specific purpose. Maternal specific.
